We’ve been so busy in art! I’m excited to share our progress through the year… I’ve fallen behind in posting; get ready for an overload!
Without further ado:
MOLAS! Here are some photographs of third graders sewing their own molas! Molas are a textile art from Colombia and Panama.
Studying the artwork of Native Kuna Indians (of Panama and Colombia) students created their own molas. Some used layered paper collage; others took on the challenge of hand-sewing their animal, plant, abstract, or geometric design.
Examples of 5th grade molas! We worked at our sewing skills and created images with pieces of felt fabric. There were definitely some pricked fingers, but we had band-aids:-)
